In the beginning...
The story behind Captain Chiropractic is one that has been passed down from generation to generation. Now, of course,
stories have a tendency to change as they get passed down but, from what I can gather, it seems pretty accurate.
The date was 1895. DD Palmer, Chiropractics founder, was up in his office going through his day,
reviewing skeletons and pictures of the body as he always did first thing in the morning. BJ, his 9 year old son, was
with him that day hanging around the office with his best friend Henry. It was summer, and it was hot...but, it didn't
stop the boys from running around and having a good ol' time. DD was expecting a visit from Harvey, the janitor, this
morning and he was very busy at his desk going over some papers. Anyway, BJ and Henry were running through the office
on that hot, summer morning when someone suddenly startled Henry. Legend says it was Harvey the Janitor coming up the
stairs to see DD, but no knows for sure. Henry, not expecting to see this person, tripped and fell down a small flight
of stairs. More like a landing, you know, 2 or 3 stairs, but enough when he hit the floor, he went unconscious.
Where as most boys would panic in this situtation, BJ knew just what to do. So he grabbed his arms and dragged him down
the hall to his father's office. BJ told his father what had happend and DD told him to help him get Henry up on his
table. Again, the story gets a little sketchy at this point but some say that DD ran his hand down his spine and found
his Atlas out and some say it was his upper thoracic spine. No one really knows for sure. But, what ever was out,
DD took his hands and adjusted the vertebrae back into place. Within about 2 minutes, Henry came around and, although
sore from the fall, showed no other signs of any trauma.
Feeling better, the 2 boys went off, out the office door, past Harvey the Janitor who was on his way in, and back
down the hall to play tag. Most people don't know that this was actually the first adjustment. By the time Harvey
had gone in, DD already had one under his belt and was warmed up.
Anyway, time passes and the boys grow up. BJ ends up taking over where his father left off and developing Chiropractic
more and more. Henry, although growing up like any other boy, secretly was unsettled. You see, after that day
at the office when he was adjusted, things changed for Henry. He would have dreams of flying at night. He would
see himself adjusting others but always noticed colors of green and yellow on him. DD would come to him in his dreams
and tell him he would change the health of the world. And, the strangest thing was that in his dreams, he found himself
speaking to little cartoons that always helped him change peoples lifestyles for the better. This happened to him almost
every day throughout his childhood into his 20's. He knew from that day in his office that he wanted to do for
others what Dr. Palmer had done for him. And, he just figured that these were all signs to reinforce that.
So, again, time passes and Henry is a chiropractor, working at Palmer College helping others learn about chiropractic
and running a successful practice in Davenport as well. Life is good, but it's about to get better. While at the office
one day during lunch, Henry was sorting through charts of patients who would be coming in that afternoon. Remembering
he had left a chart at the dest, Henry got up out of his chair and proceeded up front. Not realizing one of his CA's
had stayed back in the office to finish up some work, Henry was startled when he saw her and tripped and fell to the office
floor. Henry was dazed, going in and out of consciousness from the blow. When, in the haze of his vision he noticed
a man with a long coat, long dark hair and a dark beard.

...
It was DD Palmer. Henry was stunned, how could it be! DD came closer to him and said,
"Henry, when you were a boy, you were given the gift of the first adjustment. And with that gift, the
universe instilled in you a power. A power that was more than you being able help people through Chiropractic. This
power is going to make you able to help people all over the world. This power is going to make you able
to fly to places in need. You are going to change the health and wellness of the world from this day on."
And with that, he showed him a mirror and said,
"You are now Captain Chiropractic, Subluxation Finder and Destroyer Extraordinaire. And
these are your helpers, the Heroes of Health."
Henry saw 6 little figures in the mirror.
"Each one will help you complete your wellness quest by changing people's diet, exercise, rest, attitude
and posture. All you have to do is call on them by name. Now, go, Henry. Go downstairs to the basement and
over to the far wall where the book shelf is. Find the titled The 33 Principles and take it out. Your destiny
awaits."
Now, Henry is beside himself. Was this real or just a dream? Just then, Henry felt a hand on his
shoulder and a voice say, "Dr. Henry, are you ok?" It was Anna, his CA. "I think so", Henry said back.
"Did you see that guy who was just here in the long coat and black hair?" "Uhh, no", Anna said, "Let's get you up to
the chair and get some ice for your head. You took a pretty good fall."
"Hold on, Anna, I'll be right back." Henry got up and went down to the basement where he kept his collection of
books. Finding The 33 Principles, Henry slowly backed it out off the shelf when suddenly the wall opened up. Henry
walked cautiously inside and saw an unbelievable site. A huge screen with a map of the world, a glass case with a green
and yellow suit with wings, and sitting at some sort of control panel were 8 little cartoonish-looking figures.
"Hello, Dr. Henry", a little guy who looked like a spine with a magic wand said. "We've eagerly been awaiting your
arrival."
And thus, Captain Chiropractic was born. The Heroes of Health were waiting for Henry to arrive and introduced him
to the ChiroCave - the nerve center of the world. And from that day on, Captain Chiropractic and the Heroes of Health
started to make the world a healthier place to live. Legend says that they referred to the world as Welltown, because
they wanted to make it a place where wellness was the rule, not an option. And, things started off fairly easily for
them. That is until he came along. Every hero must have his villian. And Dr. Samuel McNasty was going to
be him.
